my own grand canyon

there is this hole that exists

i dug it

i thought it was finished

that it couldn't go any deeper

i thought i gazed at it one last time

long ago

last night i dug some more

i used to fall back in my hole

often

sounds dumb, right?

since i dug it i should be more aware

of its presence

but i wasn't

and often

i would fall

the fall hurt

climbing out hurt

i fell in last night

the scariest part

(that i always forget)

is that those closest to me

can fall in too

when they fall

it hurts more
